Be Awesome Enough to Define Success on Your Own Terms

·

·         “Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life YOU’re proud to live.” ~ Anne Sweeney
My househelp, who comes twice a week to help us keep the house in order, is one of the most successful people I know. She is economically poor but otherwise infinitely wealthy. She irradiates happiness and inner peace. I have never seen her in a bad mood. One day she told me that in the past she used to clean more houses and earn more money, but that feeling constantly overworked made her miserable, so she cut down on her cleaning gigs. Now, she has enough income to cover her unpretentious material needs and also enough spare time to enjoy her existence. In other words, she has found her own, personal definition of success and follows it conscientiously. She has the strength and the honesty towards herself to modify her way of life in such a way that she could fulfill her individual needs and wishes. She has taught me a great lesson.

I believe a lot of people fall into the trap of unquestioningly adopting the stereotypical definition of success society offers us: an ambitious career, a high income, the acquisition of status symbols such as big houses, flashy cars or expensive clothing, being “hip”. It is absolutely possible that for some individuals, one or more of these things really hold a promise of happiness. For some people, these may actually be good aims to pursue. However, we are all different, hence for many this cookie-cutter definition of success will not work and only be a source of frustration and bad decisions if they apply it to themselves.

Be Satisfied With Your Life

How to be Satisfied with your Life

Satisfaction comes from within and only you and you alone have the power to make yourself content and at peace with yourself. But then when life doesn't go the way you planned it and you face problems, I honestly don’t blame you for feeling frustrated. In tough times of hardship and tribulations, it gets extremely hard for even the best of us to stay appreciative and satisfied.

I mean millions of people deal with financial, emotional and physical problems on a daily basis. And after being ground like a rock on a regular basis; I understand that to look above it and still be satisfied and happy with who you are and what you have is a very tough thing to do. But what you need to keep in mind is that being satisfied isn’t impossible and you can get there. It’s all in your head.

1. Transform Your Thought Process
The first step to overcoming any issue, no matter what it, is to change your thinking towards it. And you have probably heard this a lot and think “yeah, whatever” but it continues to be the most important step towards satisfaction. You must begin to think Positive. Change your perspective. Maybe losing your job was not such a bad thing so you can pursue your passion. Or maybe getting sick was the only way you were going to stay home and rest and God sort of forced you into it?

If your thoughts remain positive it gives you the strength and commitment to continue. Positivity is a mandatory requirement to achieve whatever you wish to achieve. You must master it."Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behavior positive because your behavior becomes your habits. Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny".― Mahatma Gandhi
